Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Sable Farms is a working farm campus residency, incubator, and retreat center, taking shape on the lower ranch of the Boulder Creek property in the far north of Idaho.

The place

About forty acres of pasture, timber, creek, and ponds on the lower ranch of a former boarding school in the Kootenai Valley, with the Selkirk and Purcell ranges in view and the Canadian border a short drive north.

The school closed in 2022 and its buildings still stand: a dining hall with a commercial kitchen, a barn, lodging cabins, a farmhouse at the entry, and a large lodge. Standing is not the same as ready. Before the first guests arrive, the kitchen needs recommissioning, the cabins need furnishing and repairs, and the property needs its permits and utility approvals. That work is in the plan.

Hospitality, agriculture, events, wellness, education, and culture, operating together on one campus.

The scale of it: it will take millions of dollars and several years. The campus serves a small audience today. We want to bring an aligned audience, and more of it, to the valley: companies, individuals, and retreats trying to better the world a little, with a mission that fits these pillars.
